Our centers are typically run by faculty members, and they focus on a particular area of law. And they're an opportunity to have extracurricular and co-curricular events focused on that particular area.

A few different centers and projects that we have at the University of Richmond: students can collaborate with faculty and in many cases with outside practitioners or outside policymakers to turn the ideas that they're getting introduced to in the classroom, into actual practice in the world.

Our faculty are all experts in their own particular areas. We have faculty who have testified before Congress with pending legislation, who have argued cases before the Supreme Court, who have helped draft regulations on emerging industries, but they're able to take that expertise, and bring it back into their classes.

So my particular specialty is intellectual property law. So this is the law that governs intangible things like art, and inventions and brand names and that sort of thing. And it's a really important part of any lawyer's study these days, because that's really what the economy is all about these days. And so it's really exciting to be in a field that's the cutting-edge of the development of the law and that I know is really going to lead to our students having lots of experiences and lots of opportunities once they get out of law school.

Through the Marriage Environmental Law Center, students have the opportunity to engage and sort of deepen their understanding of environmental law issues by participating in workshops and speaker series. And a lot of students are really excited about that content.

So I work on international anti-corruption law and human rights law, particularly as it applies to companies to companies engaged in international business and the "Project on Corporate Compliance and Human Rights." It's a project that interfaces with a number of other organizations, corporate law firms, and in one case, a law school in the Ukraine developing a number of policies that can advance anti-corruption and human rights goals. Another is promoting anti-corruption and corporate compliance programs and human rights due diligence programs for companies who are going to be involved in Mega sports in the United States moving forward.
